Quill Loss
Baby hedgehogs go through "quilling" (replacing baby quills with adult ones) which is normal. Adult hedgehog quill loss can indicate mites, fungal infection, stress, or nutritional deficiency.
Green or Abnormal Stool
Normal hedgehog stool is dark brown and firm. Green, mucousy, or bloody stool indicates stress, dietary issues, or infection. Hedgehogs are prone to intestinal issues that can escalate quickly.
Dry, Flaky Skin
Dry, flaky skin in hedgehogs is common and can range from simple dry skin (easily fixed) to mites (requires treatment). Quilling babies also have temporarily dry, flaky skin.
