Frequently Asked Questions
How many human years is one cat year?â–¼
It's not a simple multiplication. The first year of a cat's life takes them from infancy to teenagehood (about 15 human years). The second year matures them to a 24-year-old human. After age 2, each cat year equals roughly 4 human years.
How long do indoor vs. outdoor cats live?â–¼
There is a significant difference. Indoor cats typically live 12-18 years, with many reaching their 20s. Outdoor cats face many more risks (cars, predators, disease) and have an average lifespan of just 2-5 years.
When is a cat considered a senior?â–¼
Cats are generally considered "mature" at 7-10 years and "senior" at 11-14 years. Cats 15 years and older are classified as "geriatric". Regular vet checkups should become more frequent (twice yearly) once a cat becomes a senior.
How can I help my cat live longer?â–¼
Keep them indoors, maintain a healthy weight (obesity is a major killer), provide dental care, ensure hydration (wet food helps), and keep up with regular veterinary wellness exams to catch issues early.
