Entrenamiento para ir al baño para Perros

Potty training is every new puppy owner's first challenge — and most common frustration. The good news? Dogs naturally want to keep their living space clean. Your job is to show them where "outside" is and reward them for going there. With consistency and patience, most puppies are reliably house trained within 2-4 weeks. 🎯 Enfoque de Entrenamiento

The Golden Rule

Take your puppy out at predictable times: immediately after waking, after eating, after play, after drinking, and every 2-3 hours. Prevention is everything.

Same Spot Every Time

Use the same door and the same outdoor spot. The accumulated scent becomes a trigger — dogs naturally want to go where they've gone before.

Mark and Reward

The INSTANT they finish (not during!), mark with "yes!" or a clicker and give a treat. Reward outside, not after coming in — you're rewarding the potty, not returning home.

Manage, Don't Punish

Accidents are YOUR failure, not the puppy's. If they have an accident, you weren't supervising closely enough. Clean with enzymatic cleaner to remove scent. Never rub their nose in it.

💡 Consejos Clave de Entrenamiento

1

⚠️Errores Comunes a Evitar

  • Punishing accidents (causes hiding behavior, not learning)
  • Giving too much freedom too fast
  • Not enough outdoor trips
  • Not cleaning accidents with enzymatic cleaner (they smell it and go there again)
  • Rewarding after coming inside instead of immediately after pottying

Señales de Progreso

  • Tu dog responde más rápido a las señales
  • Ofrecen el comportamiento sin ser solicitados
  • Menos frustración para ambos
  • El comportamiento se generaliza a nuevos entornos

Preguntas Frecuentes

How long can a puppy hold it?
General rule: one hour per month of age, up to about 6 hours maximum for healthy adults. A 2-month-old puppy can hold it for 2 hours (less if active). A 4-month-old can manage 4 hours. Never push the limit — set them up for success.
My puppy pees inside right after coming in from outside!
Stay outside longer! Puppies get distracted by the outdoors. Wait until they've actually gone, then praise and treat. Don't assume they went just because they were outside. If needed, stay out 15+ minutes or walk around to encourage sniffing/going.
Should I use puppy pads?
Pads can delay outdoor training because you're teaching "it's okay to go inside." If you work long hours and can't take puppies out frequently, pads are a compromise. But for fastest results, skip pads and go directly outside.
My adult rescue has accidents. Can old dogs be potty trained?
Absolutely! Treat them like a puppy: frequent outdoor trips, supervision, crate when unsupervised, and reward outdoor potties. Past trauma or confusion will resolve with patient, consistent training. Rule out medical issues first with your vet.
