Chinchillas are crepuscular (active at dawn and dusk). Train during their natural active periods for best results.
Fast movements trigger their flight response. Move slowly and speak softly around chinchillas.
Offer a treat through the cage bars, then with the door open. Eventually they will take treats from your hand inside the cage. This is step one.
Say their name before every treat. Chinchillas can learn to come running when they hear their name — especially at treat time.
