⚠️ Síntomas Urgentes
Shell Rot
Shell rot is a bacterial or fungal infection of the shell that causes soft spots, discoloration, foul smell, and pitting. It progresses inward and can become life-threatening if it reaches underlying bone.
Respiratory Infection
Respiratory infections in turtles cause bubbling from the nose, open-mouth breathing, lopsided swimming (one lung affected), and wheezing. Common in aquatic turtles kept in cold water or poor conditions.
Swollen or Closed Eyes
Swollen, puffy, or closed eyes in turtles are most commonly caused by Vitamin A deficiency (hypovitaminosis A), which affects the tear glands and mucous membranes. Also caused by bacterial infection or poor water quality.
Soft Shell (Metabolic Bone Disease)
A soft, flexible shell in a hard-shelled turtle indicates metabolic bone disease (MBD) from calcium deficiency, lack of UVB light, or incorrect diet. Without treatment, the shell deforms permanently.
